MONSIGNOR ROBERT STERN

WEEKEND ASSOCIATE

As a young man, Msgr. Robert  was educated in the New York public schools and was on his way to becoming a nuclear physicist but experienced a call to the priesthood during a pilgrimage to Rome. He was ordained in 1958 and went on to earn a a Doctorate in Canon Law (J.C.D.) magna cum laude at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome and to serve as secretary-general of the Catholic Near East Welfare Association.  Msgr. Robert holds the titles of Protonotary Apostolic of Pope Benedict XVI,  Mitered Grand Archimandrite of the Melkite Greek Catholic Patriarchate of Jerusalem, and a Knight Commander of the Patriarchal Order of the Holy Cross of Jerusalem, among others. He officially retired in 2011 though we are blessed to enjoy his wisdom and humor as a Weekend Associate at SFDS!
