CANTORS — part-time

We have two English Masses at 9am + 11am and one Spanish Mass at 12:30pm. We are a vibrant, young and welcoming community that makes use of various styles of liturgical music, in particular traditional and modern gospel. Both men and women are invited to apply, and we welcome a bilingual speaker (English and Spanish) although this is not a requirement. The stipend per Mass (Sunday or Holy Days) is $100.

Each cantor:

  • Will report directly to the director of music ministries

  • Will act as the substitute for the principal at least once every two months (if not more)

  • Will master the music for each Mass so as to be able to lead the congregation effectively

  • Is encouraged to attend weekly rehearsals on Tuesdays and be involved in the music ministry at large (although this is not required)

  • Must display a strong musical ability, including improvisational skills

  • Must be able to sing a variety of genres but with an emphasis in gospel music

  • Must dress appropriately to lead a worship experience

  • Must foster the overall good of the music ministries and the parish community by being present at important parish events

  • Must be available for Holy Days of Obligation and special Masses, including Christmas Eve/Day, Holy Week (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil and Resurrection Sunday) and certain celebrations of the Sacraments

  • Will be given priority as cantor for funerals and weddings

Unless otherwise stated, the cantor will receive payment on the day of his/her service. Cantors are compensated as "independent contractors". Compensation for "special services", i.e. outside the Sunday Masses and Holy Days, will be agreed upon separately by the cantor, the director of music ministries and the pastor.
