MEET OUR STAFF
REV. PHILIP J. KELLY
Fr. Philip Kelly completed his studies at St. Joseph's Seminary, Dunwoodie and was ordained Priest for the Archdiocese of New York by John Cardinal O'Connor in May of 1993. After language and cultural studies at the Instituto de Idiomas in Cochabamba, Bolivia, he began his pastoral ministry in Manhattan, first as Parochial Vicar at Ascension Parish on Manhattan's Upper West Side followed by Pastor at St. Joseph of the Holy Family in Harlem. In July of 2011, he was appointed Pastor of St.Francis de Sales where he is constantly delighted by the diversity and energy of our parish community.
DIRECTOR of RELIGIOUS EDucation &
ADULT FAITH FORMATION
Jayne Porcelli, aka our fearless leader, has dedicated over thirty years to parish ministry. Jayne became involved in ministry as a teenager which led to a bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Sociology, and Theology from Molloy College, followed by a master’s in Religion and Religious Education from Fordham University and a Certification in Spiritual Direction. Jayne is also certified as a Director of the Catechumenate—she was the first to earn this honor from the Archdiocese of New York and is currently the only person in NYC who holds this certification.
Jayne has worked in extensively in parishes throughout New York and New Jersey in the areas of religious education, youth and family ministry, leadership training, and ongoing adult faith formation (RCIA). Here at SFdS, she directs the parish’s affairs while also focusing on our inter-generational catechesis programs for children, adults, and the Latino community. Jayne is fluent in Spanish so feel free to say hola when you see her. She is an accomplished writer as well–keep up with her via our parish blog, The View From Where We Stand.
Sister LYNNE JACOBY, RSHM
Sister Lynne, a Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, relocated to her Religious Community on East 93rd Street and quickly made SFdS her home to nourish her spirituality.
Sister Lynne has worked as a Pastoral Associate in a number of parishes for the greater part of my Religious life, always with the understanding of importance of Unity out of Diversity. "That concept has always been a motivational force for me. One of the goals for all the different parishes where I worked was to form one united parish out of many diverse cultures and language groups represented there."
FR. TONY CIORRA
Fr. Tony Ciorra was ordained a priest in 1973 and earned a Ph. D. in Theology from Fordham University. In 1999, he was given the pontifical honor Pro Eccelsia et Pontifice by Pope John Paul II in recognition of his ministry in the Church. His most recent publication is Beauty: A Way to God (Paulist Press, 2013). He is actively involved in creating programs for inter-religious dialogue among Jews, Christians, and Muslims.
MONSIGNOR ROBERT STERN
As a young man, Msgr. Robert was educated in the New York public schools and was on his way to becoming a nuclear physicist but experienced a call to the priesthood during a pilgrimage to Rome. He was ordained in 1958 and went on to earn a a Doctorate in Canon Law (J.C.D.) magna cum laude at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome and to serve as secretary-general of the Catholic Near East Welfare Association. Msgr. Robert holds the titles of Protonotary Apostolic of Pope Benedict XVI, Mitered Grand Archimandrite of the Melkite Greek Catholic Patriarchate of Jerusalem, and a Knight Commander of the Patriarchal Order of the Holy Cross of Jerusalem, among others. He officially retired in 2011 though we are blessed to enjoy his wisdom and humor as a Weekend Associate at SFdS!
Kathy Calderon is our office manager. She is a graduate of St. Jean Baptiste HS as well as Baruch College. Kathy has worked for the Archdiocese of NY for the past 30 years. When it comes to multitasking: be it phone, computer, door or folks sitting in her office talking with her, she can manage it all. Kathy enjoys getting to know the parishioners at St. Francis.
digital ministry coordinator
As our new go-to for all things related to digital communications, Lydia is particularly excited to help spread our "live Jesus" message of love and inclusion. Originally from Puerto Rico by way of the Midwest, Lydia went through our RCIA process two years ago and is active throughout the parish in several ministries and groups . Lydia received her bachelor's from Yale and recently completed a master's in Integrated Marketing from NYU. Her previous career experience is in sales and marketing for the wine industry, a path she feels primed her for her current role at SFdS as "no other religion has greater appreciation for wine than Catholicism."
DIRECTOR OF MUSIC MINISTRIES
Dylan Wyka is an energetic and versatile musician who specializes in the Pop-R&B and Gospel genres. Originally from New Jersey, Dylan is fairly new to NYC having spent the last few years living and working Florence, Italy. Dylan is currently a nominee in the “Best Contemporary Male Artist” category for the Kindred Awards which recognize Christian musicianship taking place in March 2019 . He was recently a finalist in the ‘Voice Your Inspiration’ contest held at Carnegie Hall. A multi-talented singer-songwriter, composer, arranger, orchestrator, and recording artist, Dylan is keen on encouraging each and every congregant to be an integral part of worship. He looks forward to spreading the joy of the Resurrection by means of music. Check out his projects online by using the hashtag #DylanAndTheMusic. As he always preaches, “Be the love!”
HEAD OF HOSPITALITY & SACRISTAN
Felicia comes to us via St. Joseph of the Holy Family in Harlem where she previously worked alongside Father Kelly. Originally from Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, Felicia can be found here, there, and everywhere—she's the go-to if if you need a door unlocked or have a question. She's our holder of keys with a wisdom that extends to firsthand knowledge of where the snacks are stashed throughout the parish...
Al has been working in the Archdiocese of New York for 14 years. He began his career at St. Joseph of the Holy Family in Harlem and came to work at St. Francis 3 years ago.
More than the maintenance man here at the church, he and his family, including "my beautiful wife Jenny, my daughters, Stephanie and Leslie" are part of this parish family. They have lived here in the neighborhood for 18 years. Last year, Al and Jenny were instrumental in helping the parish celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe with great devotion.
